Running for Fort Saskatchewan Council 2025

John Mather
2000's

First attempt at running for Fort Saskatchewan Council

Didn’t retain a seat

Instead I sat on the Fort Sask Public Library Board

2010

Decided to try again and Ran for Council once more and successfully earned my seat

Fought for expansion to the current City Hall location, which also allowed for the growth of the Public Library, as to better serve and accommodate our citizens and growing community

Successfully aided in the efforts of doubling the size of our Public Library

2010-2013

Launched expansion on the City Hall Project

I became Vice Chair of this group and represented the Library Board

2013

A plaque outside on the expanded City Hall wall commemorates this achievement and I’m very proud that my name appears on it.

2014

After failing to win re-election I joined the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, so I could still serve our community.

MORE ABOUT MY CAMPAIGN

This election campaign, residents will not see me coming to their doors across Fort Saskatchewan,

The primary reason for this is I’m awaiting knee replacement surgery and walking any distance is very difficult and painful. For this reason you may see walking with a cane.

But also, people have come to resent people coming to their doors.

They have cameras to warn them of approaching visitors and if they don’t recognize the person or feel a perceived threat they won’t answer their door. I can’t blame them for this and incidents of home invasions and petty crime are on the increase. This is particularly true in the rural areas of Alberta.

That said, I do want to hear your concerns about how our city should grow.

I’ll have coffee meets which will be listed under our “Meetings Tab”
